Thursday August 8: 9:00 – 9:50 AM
In today’s culture the words we use in rehearsal, in conversation with our students, to our audiences and administrators and the texts we choose to sing, can have a profound impact. Now, more than ever, teachers must be intentional and thoughtful in our communication. In this session we will discuss:
- Language choices in rehearsal and how they affect outcomes
- Choice of texts and how to impact the meaning students take from the texts. We will talk about the challenges of teaching sacred texts, poetry outside of most students’ experiences, and more contemporary texts.
- How to authentically advocate for choral music. How can we describe what the choral experience means to us and to our students in a way that our parents, administrators, and audiences can relate to.
